1. Occasional Out of Hours Payment

These payments are aimed at staff who need financial support for adult and/or childcare in order to attend occasional out of hours activities linked to career enhancement, such as attending evening conferences and seminars, research presentation opportunities, representing SOAS.

2. Emergency Care Payments

These payments are aimed at providing staff with a payment to arrange emergency childcare support and care for dependent adults when their existing arrangements have fallen through at short notice.

This scheme is operated by the Human Resources department, and any queries should be directed to hr-operations@soas.ac.uk in the first instance.

3. Eligibility

Occasional Out of Hours Payment:

  • The allowance is for a maximum of two payments per academic year, per staff member with each payment being up to a maximum of £100;
  • The funding is for staff with caring responsibilities for adults and/or children. A carer is anyone who cares for a family member, in need of assistance or support with daily living;
  • Once the funds have been exhausted, no further grants will be awarded.

There is provision within the scheme for staff to exceptionally apply for a higher level of funding e.g. staff who require child or elder care as a consequence of having to go abroad on SOAS business at short notice. A decision on eligibility would be made based on the strategic priorities of the school and would need to be agreed by the relevant Pro-Director and HR Business Partner.

4. Application

Applications for Out of Hours and/or Emergency Care Payments should be submitted through Agresso using the attached Application Form for SOAS Occasional Out of Hours and Emergency Care Payments (msword; 26kb) . The application form should also be accompanied by a receipt/invoice detailing what you are claiming for. Please allow 14 working days for the consideration and processing of these applications.

5. Payments

a)    Reimbursements will be made directly to the employee.

b)   Employees should claim via the Agresso Self Service System using the PHRO Cost code. To avoid rejections on the system, please ensure that the correct claim amount is entered i.e. maximum of two payments per academic year, with each payment being up to a maximum of £100.
