Hanan Albalkhe

Hanan Albalkhe is a PhD researcher specializing in Cultural Literary and Postcolonial Studies with a focus on Political Dynamics and Novelistic Discourses in Contemporary Syria. 

With a primary academic background in literature and cultural studies, she completed her master's degree at the University of Oslo in the Asian and African Studies program, delving into the representations of the "Western Other" in Syrian literature. Her expertise extends to political research related to Syria, further enriched by her professional experience as a journalist at Alaraby TV Network.

The research project centers on Political Dynamics and Novelistic Discourses in Contemporary Syria, delving into the realm of Syrian fiction to examine how political authority, governance structures, and state apparatus are portrayed and analyzed within literary works. 

By investigating the representation of political themes in Syrian literature, particularly focusing on the roles of the president, military, police, intelligence services, laws, democracy, freedom of speech, and religion, this study aims to uncover the intricate layers of political dynamics woven into literary narratives. Through a thorough examination of Syrian novels, this research endeavors to reveal the multifaceted aspects of political power and governance as envisioned by authors whose writings serve as reflective mirrors of the political landscape in modern Syria. 

By scrutinizing how political figures are depicted, the functionalities of state institutions, the mechanisms of control and resistance, and the repercussions of political decisions on societal conditions, this study aims to shed light on how literature acts as a platform for commentary, criticism, and contemplation on the essence of power and its expressions within a complex political setting.
