Biography

Irem Cihan is a Ph.D. candidate in Politics and International Studies at SOAS University of London.

She holds a Master’s degree in Asian Studies from Boğaziçi University and has been a visiting scholar at Columbia University in the City of New York and Ewha Womans University in Seoul, South Korea. Shaped by interdisciplinary training and diverse academic settings, her work centers on Northeast Asian and Middle Eastern affairs, with a particular focus on South Korea and Turkey.

Her doctoral research delves into the aesthetic dimensions of national roles and ontological security in international relations, examining how visual narratives and cultural productions are mobilized to project identity narratives and navigate existential anxieties. Through her research, she seeks to contribute new conceptual and methodological approaches to understanding the entanglements of aesthetics and global politics.
