Biography
Iris Nikolopoulou is an Associate Lecturer in Economics at SOAS University of London.
Her research focuses on economic crises and the role of institutions in shaping economic models, particularly in Europe and the Global South. She examines how alliances and compromises between social, political, and economic actors shape institutional configurations and influence trajectories of capital accumulation.
Her work also explores financialisation and wage inequality, combining historical analysis, economic theory, and empirical techniques to understand how institutional and financial dynamics affect social and economic outcomes. Iris’s research aims to advance a critical understanding of contemporary economic challenges. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Industrial Relations Journal and Revue de la Régulation.
At SOAS, Iris teaches Econometrics I and II, Applied Econometrics, and Mathematics for Economists, fostering students’ ability to connect quantitative methods with real-world economic questions. She has also taught Macroeconomic Analysis, Labour Economics, Economic Growth, and Political Economy at other higher education institutions in London and Paris. Iris’s teaching adopts a pluralistic approach, drawing on diverse perspectives and global case studies.
