Biography
Jood W. Alharthi is an experienced practitioner in international law and international peacebuilding. Her doctoral research focuses on innovating approaches to peacebuilding and international conflict resolution in the MENA region. Most recently, Jood served as a Political Affairs Officer in the Executive Office of the United Nations Secretary-General.
She was based in the Rule of Law Unit, supporting senior decision-makers in addressing global challenges related to international peace and security in the MENA and Asia region. In an earlier position, she worked in the UN Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, where she was part of the Policy and Mediation Division. In this position, she contributed to the development of international policies and strengthening the role of multilateralism in peace processes. Prior to that, Jood served in the Secretary-General’s Peacebuilding Fund, where she worked on peacebuilding projects across Europe, the MENA region, and Asia.
The projects focused on cross-border reconciliation, transitional justice, social cohesion, enhancing regional cooperation, countering disinformation, and youth empowerment. Before joining the United Nations, Jood worked in London with a top-tier law firm in the International Litigation Department, supporting the resolution of complex multi-jurisdictional cases. She also worked in international commercial law firms in London and Dubai, within their corporate departments. Additionally, she gained experience in criminal and terrorism law at the California Central District Federal Court. She conducted research on environmental policies in the MENA region for the Economist Middle East Intelligence Unit. Jood studied Pre-Law with a focus on Philosophy and Politics at University College London. She obtained a Bachelor of Laws from Swansea University and a Master of Laws from SOAS, University of London.
