Biography

KMS Tareq (Tareq Salauddin) is recognised by Advance HE as a Fellow (FHEA) against Descriptor 2 of the UKPSF. As a Commonwealth Scholar, Tareq is doing a PhD in law at SOAS University of London. He is researching climate mobility governance in multilevel law and policy from recognition, protection, and climate justice Perspectives.   

In addition to doing a PhD, Tareq works as a Teaching Fellow at the College of Law, SOAS. Earlier, he worked there as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA). As a fractional teacher in the roles of GTA and TF, Tareq covers tutorials of several undergraduate modules, including Law of Torts, Criminal Law, Property Law, Equity and Trust, and International Environmental Law. He also works as the chief invigilator of in-person examinations at SOAS.  Before starting his journey at SOAS in 2021, Tareq worked for full-time and visiting academic positions in public and a good number of private universities in Bangladesh. 

He was an Associate Professor (Reader) of Law at the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. He also held positions as an Assistant Professor and Lecturer in Law there. Tareq spent a year as a Lecturer in Law at Daffodil International University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He delivers lectures in professional institutions, including the Bangladesh Police Academy (BPA) and the Regional Public Administration Training Centre (RPATC), Bogura, Bangladesh. As a visiting lecturer, he works at Varendra University in Rajshahi and at Northern University in Dhaka. 

Tareq worked earlier as a civil servant in Bangladesh. His assistant commissioner and executive magistrate roles further enhanced his practical understanding of certain aspects of Bangladesh's criminal justice and land administration.  Tareq has strong communication with fellow researchers. He is a research affiliate and working group member on climate change and displacement at the Refugee Law Initiative (RLI) of the School of Advanced Study, University of London. He is also a member of the Society of Legal Scholars (SLS) of the UK; the Association of Law Teachers (ALT) of England; the Socio-Legal Studies Association (SLSA); the International Law Association (ILA), the British Branch; the Environmental and Climate Mobility Network (ECMN), Austria; a Fellow of the Society for Advanced Legal Studies (SALS), the official society of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (IALS), University of London; a member of the Global Strategic Litigation Council (GSLC), an initiative of Zolberg Institute of Migration and Mobility, New York; a member of the Migration Politics and Governance (MigPoG), International Migration Research Network (IMISCOE), University of Liege, Belgium; an an expert member of the United Nations Network on Migration.  

Tareq completed two master's and one bachelor's degree in law. His latest accomplishment was earning an LLM in International Law (with distinction) from Keele University in the UK, under the auspices of the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission. He also holds first-class degrees from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh, securing the top position in both the LLM and LLB programmes. His outstanding success was recognised with several awards, including the prestigious Prime Minister Gold Medal and University Gold Medals.
