Biography
Kshitij Moon is a PhD researcher in the Department of History at SOAS, University of London. Currently in his second year, he is based in India conducting archival research and oral history as part of his fieldwork. His research examines the anti-caste and gender history of Maharashtra in the twentieth century, with a focus on the Central Provinces and Nagpur.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Nagpur University and two Master’s degrees in History—one from Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) and another from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).
Prior to commencing his doctoral studies, Kshitij worked closely with writer and publisher Yogesh Maitreya, founder of Panther’s Paw Publication, an anti-caste publishing house in Nagpur. He played a key role in developing the Library of Emancipation, a community-driven initiative in Nagpur aimed at establishing a public library and research centre committed to making knowledge free and accessible. He was involved in curating, cataloguing and managing a collection of over 500 donated books. The library functioned as a space for social transformation by promoting anti-discriminatory literature and preserving Dalit history and culture.
Kshitij has also undertaken specialised training in caste, gender, and development. He completed a six-month certificate course on the Life and Thoughts of Dr B.R. Ambedkar at IGNOU (June–December 2023), focusing on Ambedkar’s contributions to social, political, economic and constitutional thought. As part of this work, he self-published educational reference material on Amazon Kindle in 2023. In 2021, he earned a certificate in Gender and Development from the Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule Women’s Studies Centre (SPPU), where he conducted oral history research with Neo-Buddhist Dalit families and produced a report on family planning.
Research interests
Kshitij's research interests involve studying the intersection of anti-caste movements, gender-based violence, systemic oppression, race, and masculinities.
