Biography
Dr. Maria Barrett has a PhD in Criminal Justice, Media and Gender where she examined representations of gender identities in crime news using discursive psychology. She works on the Foundation Year Modules; Academic Practice, Culture, Identity and Power, and World from SOAS. Maria is a Fellow with the Higher Education Academy and has taught in China.
Research interests
Maria‘s expansive interests include developing academic advice and wellbeing frameworks for entry-level students, disability, gender and race in the media, stories of female Indian indentureship in Jamaica, and the transformative power of storytelling.
