Law expert joins esteemed Court of Arbitration for Sport

Emilia Onyema, Professor of Law and Director of the SOAS Arbitration and Dispute Resolution Centre (SADRC), has been appointed as an Arbitrator by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, an independent, international organisation that resolves sports disputes worldwide.

She has been appointed onto the General List, meaning she can be called on to decide sports disputes at major sporting events such as the Olympics, World Championships and FIFA tournaments.

Reacting to her appointment, Emilia said: “I am honoured to be joining CAS, a body recognised by the most significant governing bodies in international sports. Fairness, transparency and credibility in sports have never been more important and to be able to contribute in this way is a source of great pride.”

Professor Onyema is a professor in International Commercial Law, with expertise in a variety of fields that include international arbitration (commercial and investment), OHADA law, commercial contracts, the international sale/carriage of goods, and Nigerian customary laws.
