Philosophy expert awarded Advance HE’s National Teaching Fellowship
Dr Paul Giladi, Reader in Philosophy in the School of History, Religions and Philosophies, has been awarded a National Teaching Fellowship from Advance HE, the UK’s highest individual honour for teaching and learning in higher education.
Reflecting his outstanding impact, Dr Giladi is one of only 55 educators welcomed into the prestigious fellowship this year, each recognised for their work in shaping the future of teaching and learning across UK higher education.
Pedagogy is something that fills me with immense joy, purpose, and fulfilment. Helping students work through a range of struggles to give birth to their own innovative and rich philosophical ideas and watching them increasingly self-conceive as researchers with active stakes in knowledge production reassures me that they’re set for success.
This award celebrates his sustained contribution to the SOAS community and commitment not only to philosophical pedagogy, but to positive student outcomes and student experience as a whole.
Speaking on receiving the fellowship, Dr Giladi said:
“I am deeply honoured to have been awarded a National Teaching Fellowship. For me, there is no greater professional pleasure than having a positive impact on students that I’m fortunate enough to teach.

The fellowship also gives me the opportunity to decisively contribute to the university’s Education Strategy, mentor other staff and help to develop and secure future SOAS National Teaching fellows.”
Vice-Chancellor Adam Habib congratulated Dr Giladi, saying:
