The SOAS South Asia Institute is delighted to announce TWO Fred Lightfoot Scholarships for 2020-2021.

This is a special and unique opportunity for third-year doctoral students in any discipline at SOAS who are engaged in the study of India.

Each award will be for £5000 to support doctoral study, including: maintenance, fees, travel, research and conference costs during the coming academic year (2020-21). A short financial and academic report will be due to the South Asia Institute in September 2021.

This is a truly generous contribution to the career and professional development of a young scholar.

The donor, Effie Lightfoot, would like to be in touch with recipients and would prefer the awards to go to scholars who intend to use their education in the field.

Applications should be of no more than 1 page under the following headings, name, department, year of registration at SOAS, full-time or part-time, research topic, abstract of research, research funding awarded so far, plans, conferences and projects that will be made possible with the award and name of primary supervisor.
