SOAS Alumni recognised in King's Birthday Honours List 2025
SOAS graduates were recognised for their exceptional contributions and service in The King’s Birthday Honours List 2025.
The honours list celebrate the outstanding achievements and commitment to public service of individuals across the UK. This year, five SOAS alumni have been acknowledged for their inspiring work in advancing education, culture, and wellbeing.
The entire SOAS community extends our congratulations to the alumni who have been honoured this year, reflecting our continued excellence and the strength of our global network.
Honours list recipients
Sarah Lowe MBE
Sarah (BA Anthropology 1990) has been awarded an MBE for services to Data Research. She is the Head of Project Development and Impact for the Welsh Government, part of ADR Wales.
Sarah has previously led the Welsh Government Surveys Team, and had roles in various social research roles in the Welsh Government since 2001. Earlier in her career, Sarah worked at the Office for National Statistics (1995-2000), delivering the National Diet and Nutrition Survey: young people aged 4 to 18 years.
Kevin Coutinho MBE
Kevin (MA International Studies and Diplomacy 2001) has been awarded an MBE for services to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. He is Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Windsor Fellowship.
Kevin is an equalities practitioner in higher education. He is the Chair of the Higher Education Race Action Group, an Athena SWAN and Race Equality Charter panellist for Advance HE and previous Co-Chair of the League of European Research Universities EDI Policy Group.
He was Head of Equality and Diversity at the University of Oxford, an Equality and Diversity Consultant at the University of Cambridge and an HR Strategy and Policy Partner at Birkbeck, University of London.
