SOAS Centre for Sustainable Finance Co-hosts Roundtable on Climate-resilient Infrastructure Investments in Nairobi

The SOAS Centre for Sustainable Finance co-hosted a roundtable event on Climate-resilient Infrastructure Investments at Strathmore University in Nairobi on 1 September.

Following three weeks of interviews in Kenya, Dr Kate Bayliss, Senior Research Fellow at the SOAS Centre for Sustainable Finance, and Hope Njoroge, a Business Development Officer at Strathmore University’s Energy Research Centre, presented preliminary observations from their research into mobilising private finance for climate resilient infrastructure. They were joined by stakeholders from the private sector, government institutions, donor agencies, civil society and academia. Professor Izael Pereira Da Silva, the UNESCO Chair on Climate Change Resilience and Sustainability, welcomed roundtable participants, and the event was expertly chaired by Mengo Sherastine.

The application of the Chatham House rule meant that a full and frank discussion ensued. Following a rich debate, Kate and Hope will collate their findings into a policy briefing to be distributed later this year.

The research is part of a project on Mobilising Private Finance for Sustainable Economic Infrastructure (MPF-Infra) conducted by the SOAS Centre for Sustainable Finance and the SOAS Centre for Sustainable Structural Transformation in partnership with the University of Oxford’s Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, University College London’s Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources and ODI Global and funded by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
