Oscar Frandsen

Oscar joined SOAS in 2019 as a Senior Teaching Fellow and Guest Lecturer before taking up a full-time post in September 2025. He qualified as a Solicitor in 2025 after completing his training contract at Wilson Solicitors, where he worked from 2019 to 2025, specialising in all aspects of international protection.  He subsequently joined the Howard League for Penal Reform, supporting children and young adults on a wide range of prison and public law matters. His earlier experience includes roles at Reprieve, Duncan Lewis Solicitors, and an award-winning human rights charity working with vulnerable migrants. Oscar holds a masters in Human Rights Law from SOAS - University of London, the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) from the University of Law, and a Bachelors in International Relations from the University of Leeds.  Oscar’s current work focuses on the theoretical and practical issues relating to immigration detention, international protection and human rights.  At SOAS, Oscar contributes to teaching on the following modules: Asylum & Immigration Law; Access to Justice & Legal Skills; and Criminal Law. He currently convenes the Independent Study Project (ISP) for final year students on the LLB and is the Director of the SOAS Exceptional Case Funding Clinic. 

Migration broadly (including irregular, undocumented, family, asylum, EEA nationals, trafficking and modern slavery), immigration enforcement and incarceration, the hostile environment, and legal aid; border and prison abolition.
