Biography
Yasmin Houamed is a multi-disciplinary researcher working at the intersection of food practices, art and community health.
She received her BA in Political Science from Stanford University and her MA in Anthropology of Food from SOAS University of London. She has been supporting the England case study of the ESRC-funded 'Digitalising Food Assistance: Political economy, governance and food security effects across the Global North-South divide' project. The project examines how digitalising food assistance has influenced access to food for marginalised populations and its role as a source of power.
Yasmin is currently pursuing a PhD at City St George’s, University of London, within the Food Policy Centre in the School of Health & Medical Sciences, where her research explores the feasibility of a Healthy Food Standard for small and medium-sized businesses. Her PhD is funded through a National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) programme focused on understanding how changes to the food environment can help prevent diet-related disease and obesity.
