Inbound students: study abroad

Broaden your university studies by spending a semester or year at SOAS University of London. 

Add to your current studies or explore an entirely new area of interest by building modules from across our departments. Take the credit back to your home institution, along with memories of your time spent in London.

• Duration: semesters 1 or 2 only, or a full academic year.
• Attendance mode: full time (four modules per semester).
• Start of programme: September 2026 (semester 1) or January 2027 (semester 2).
• Application deadline: 30 June 2026 for semester 1, and 30 October 2026 for semester 2.

SOAS Study Abroad work closely with the Accommodation Team to secure housing options for students. Semester-only students can apply for a semester-long contract to stay at Dinwiddy House. Full year students can apply for accommodation at any undergraduate or postgraduate halls depending on their scheme. 

Once students have received their letter of acceptance, the Study Abroad Team will share further information on how students can apply for these options. 

Full year study abroad students follow the SOAS Academic Calendar. 

Semester 1 study abroad students finish earlier, with 11 December 2026 their final on-campus day before the Christmas break. They can return home from the day but may need to continue to submit online assignments until 17 January 2027.

Semester 2 study abroad students are required to attend a compulsory orientation week and therefore begin at SOAS on 11 January 2027. They can return home from the last teaching day on 23 April 2027 or after the last exam they need to take, whichever is earlier.

Fees cover:

• academic tuition
• examinations and assessment
• use of the library
• membership of the Students' Union

Fees do not cover:

• accommodation
• living expenses
