Early retirement of coal-fired power plants

Overview

Coal-fired power is recognised as a major driver of global climate change. To reduce emissions, several countries around the world have started phasing out coal power and agreed to stop building new coal-fired power plants at home and abroad.

Against this backdrop, the Green Finance & Development Center at FISF Fudan University and the Centre for Sustainable Finance at SOAS University of London conduct a project on "Early Retirement of Coal Fired Power Plants" with support from the UK Government through the Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions (PACT) programme.

The project reviews global, regional and national initiatives for facilitating the early retirement of coal-fired power plants and draws lessons for financing a just transition and ensuring energy security.
