Practice Research Network
The SOAS Practice Research Network (PRN) brings together SOAS researchers from across all disciplines and career stages who are involved in, and interested in, producing non-traditional forms of research, including filmmaking, video games, music composition, photography, art exhibitions, creative writing, and many other diverse mediums of expression.
Since its launch in 2023, the network has held internal work-in-progress sessions and a symposium in July 2024 at which Professor David Harradine was the keynote. The PRN is engaged in conversations, collaborations, and advocacy around the need for greater visibility for and recognition of practice research within Higher Education globally.
In April 2025, the network hosted its first major public event – a workshop titled 'Transforming Knowledges: Affordances and Urgencies of Artistic Research', in collaboration with Jyoti Mistry, SOAS Leverhulme Visiting Professor for 2024/2025 (who is also a Professor at the Valand Film Academy, Gothenburg University, Sweden) and Professor Kristoffer Gansing (Linnaeus University, Sweden). The event included an interactive workshop with participants and a screening of two of Professor Mistry’s films from her trilogy We Come in Peace, They Said.
Professor Lindiwe Dovey is the Founder and Chair of the SOAS Practice Research Network. Please contact her if you would like to get involved: ld18@soas.ac.uk.
