Centre of Buddhist Studies
About
The SOAS Centre of Buddhist Studies’s core mission is to act as a catalyst for learning, research, and outreach on Buddhism in Asian societies and globally, past and present.
As a hub of distinguished Buddhist scholarship, the SOAS Centre for Buddhist Studies (CBS) fosters collaboration among academics and research students from SOAS and other institutions who work on Buddhism in Asian contexts. This vibrant community generates new ideas and perspectives, while helping broader audiences engage with and understand the cutting-edge research currently being carried out on Buddhism.
The centre comprises permanent staff and emeriti, along with a network of associate members and graduate students from SOAS and other UK institutions.
The centre is also part of the prestigious Yin-Cheng Network for Buddhist Studies, a collaborative, multi-university partnership including, among others, the University of British Columbia, the University of Cambridge, Harvard University, INALCO, and Peking University. The network has been initiated by the Tzu Chi Foundation.
