How to apply for accommodation
SOAS students live in a range of housing all over the city and there are a variety of options for you to choose from to suit your particular needs. When you have decided on the option that is right for you, we encourage you to begin your application as soon as possible once you have firmly accepted your place at SOAS.
- Undergraduate students will need to firmly accept their offer with SOAS in order to apply for our Hall accommodation.
- Postgraduate students will need to firmly accept their offer in order to apply for our hall accommodation.
- Returning students, including those transitioning from our Foundation programme onto year 1, should use their SOAS student ID to apply.
Scholarship Students should state the scholarship they have been awarded in the notes section of the form. This is to ensure your application is processed correctly.

Types of accommodation
We have a range of halls available for students at SOAS University of London, at a variety of prices. We have twin, single, double rooms, studios, and flats as well as adapted, couples and family housing. We have ensuite and non-ensuite, self catered and catered options. We have a limited number of female only accommodation. Read about the various types of accommodation. All our halls of residence are within walking distance to the main SOAS campus.
Contract lengths vary across our accommodation portfolio but generally they range from contracts with an end date of June/July 2023 or September 2023.
We do not offer short term contracts in our halls. Students requiring short term contracts should contact the accommodation office for advice.
How to apply for halls
SOAS accommodation is allocated on the basis of vacancies across the accommodation portfolio, rather than on individual halls.
To make an application, you will need to complete the online application form, listing three choices of accommodation and any specific requirements that you may have. Your accommodation will be allocated based on one of the three options you have selected on the form; this may not be your first choice, so please ensure that you only select accommodation that is within your budget and that you are prepared to accept if offered. Do not put the same accommodation for all three choices or your application will be returned to you.
Undergraduate and Postgraduate students
Undergraduate and postgraduate students require a unique accommodation application code, which will be sent via email by our Admissions team once you have firmly accepted your place at SOAS. This is usually received within 3 working days of 'firming' the offer. However, if this is not received within 7 working days of accepting your offer, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. First year students (UG/PGT) should not use a SOAS email address on their application, as this email will not be activated until you are enrolled in September.
Postgraduate Research students
PGR students should enter their 7 digit applicant number provided they have firmly accepted their offer. New PGR students should not enter a SOAS email address on their application, as this email address will not be activated until they are registered in September.
Study Abroad students
For students on specific study abroad courses (this does not include ELAS courses) please apply directly to the Study Abroad Team by emailing email@example.com
Please contact the accommodation office before you apply to be given your unique code by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
Continuing/returning students should enter their student ID on the application and can use their existing SOAS email address on their application.
Please complete the application form, listing three choices of accommodation and adding any specific requirements.
