Thinking about doing a PhD at SOAS? Here is an exciting funding opportunity.

Following the successful launch in 2022, the Department of Politics and International Studies at SOAS is awarding two fully-funded PhD scholarships for September 2023 

Eligible programmes

  • Any full-time PhD Programme in Politics or International Studies 

New applicants only (new admissions, starting in September 2023)

Candidate criteria 

  • Open to Home/UK and International Students
  • Any incoming full-time student in Politics & International Studies 
  • Applicants must have applied to the postgraduate research degree (MPhil/PhD) in Politics & International Studies at SOAS by the time of the application to the prize and by the 1 March 2023 12:00 (UK Local Time)
  • If your offer is conditional on English, please arrange your English test and ensure you meet the requirements by March 2023
  • Please note that this scholarship does not cover funding or even allow for Pre-Sessionals. 

Candidate assessment 

Candidates will be assessed based on their application to the Prize and academic merit based on the information provided in their application to study by a Selection Panel consisting of three academic members 

Scholarship application deadline 

  •  Scholarship applications must be received no later than 1 March 2023 12:00 (UK Local Time).
  •  In order to be considered for the scholarship, you must have submitted:
        o an online application to the online application form
        o a complete online application to the PhD programme in Politics & International Studies
  •  Please note that complete applications for admission can take up to 4 weeks to be considered by the Department, although this duration can vary depending on the time of year. You should be prepared to wait up to 6 weeks in busy periods.
  •  Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

You must apply for this scholarship via the online application form.

Notification of results

Due to the competitive nature of the award, only the successful candidates will be notified by the end of April 2023. If you have not heard from us by then, you should assume that your application was unsuccessful.
