Scholarship overview

The SOAS Grant is designed to support the applicants who are academic achievers but in financial need.

There is one scholarship available valued at £24,000 in total and will act as a fee waiver. Any amount remaining after tuition fees have been deducted will be paid directly to the student in three instalments across the 2025/26 academic year. This scholarship is for one year only at full-time rate (or part-time equivalent).

Eligibility criteria

  • Any on-campus undergraduate, taught master’s or research degree programme beginning in the 2025/26 academic year.
  • New admissions only (programmes starting in 2025/26).
  • Full-time and part-time programmes are eligible.

Candidate criteria

  • This scholarship is open to Home and Overseas fee status applicants.

  • Candidates applying for undergraduate courses must possess or expect to be awarded excellent grades in A levels or equivalent qualification.
  • Candidates applying for master’s courses must possess or expect to be awarded a first-class honours undergraduate degree from a UK university or international equivalent.
  • Candidates applying for MPhil/PhD courses must possess or expect to be awarded a master’s degree with distinction from a UK university or equivalent.

Candidate assessment

  • Candidates will be assessed based on their academic merit, financial need and personal statements by a Selection Panel.
  • The assessment of your application will be based on the information provided in your scholarship application and in your online application for admission. The panel will review details such as degree results, personal statement and other relevant information.
  • Candidates must submit a complete application for their programme as soon as possible and then submit an application for this scholarship in order to be considered. Please note that complete applications for admissions can take up to 4 weeks to be considered by the department, although this duration can vary depending on the time of the year. You should be prepared to wait up to 6 weeks in busy periods. 
  • Candidates will need to have an unconditional offer for their programme by the time the Scholarship Panel meet.
  • Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

You must apply for this scholarship by 12:00pm (midday) UK local time on 2 May 2025 via the online application form.

Notification of results

The scholarship shortlisting and awarding period is expected to be completed in June 2025 at the earliest. The successful candidate will be contacted first and once the award has been allocated, unsuccessful candidates will be notified.

Terms and conditions

  • Amount will be deducted primarily from tuition. If your tuition fees are less than the award amount of £24,000, the remaining award will be paid out to student as a stipend.
  • Amount cannot be used towards any Pre-sessional English programme.
  • Scholarship cannot be combined with any other major scholarship or sponsorship. Applicants may apply for multiple scholarships but can only accept one in the event they are successful in more than one application.
  • Applicants who have secured funding for their course may not be considered for this award.
  • This award is available for the 2025/26 academic year and cannot be deferred.
