Outbound: SOAS students abroad

Study abroad

SOAS University of London is a truly international university committed to supporting diversity and global outlook of our students.

We continue to develop a number of opportunities abroad for our students to allow them to gain invaluable experience abroad and enhance their SOAS degree and future career prospects.

How to apply

Mandatory year abroad

All students with mandatory Year Abroad will be provided with relevant information on the process at the beginning of their degree at SOAS. All students will be supported throughout the process by their department, as well as the Study Abroad team.

Students studying abroad as part of their SOAS degree will be receiving credits that would be transferred on to their SOAS degree on their return, based on a transcript of records received from a host institution.

Optional year abroad

Students with optional Year Abroad will be informed about the process, guided through it and supported by both the relevant department and the Study Abroad team.

Funding and support

SOAS University London has successfully secured the Turing Scheme funding for the 2022/23 academic year.

The Turing Scheme is managed by the Study Abroad team who will provide further information on eligibility and the application process to all interested SOAS students.

All SOAS students who are spending their time abroad as part of their degree are fully supported by both their host and home university.  All students have access to SOAS resources including wellbeing services and support.
