Sustainability research

Research that changes mindsets, policies and practice

Sustainability, climate justice and their implications for the Global South are central to our research.

Our vision is to produce research that is co-created through partnerships, grounded in sustainability and decolonial approaches, and focused on addressing global challenges by changing mindsets, discourses, policies and practices. We will do this by:

  • Mapping SOAS research projects and outputs against the UN Sustainable Development Goals to highlight the impact of our sustainability-focused research.
  • Conducting research in an environmentally sustainable and just way, minimising impact through responsible use of resources, transport, energy and materials.
  • Supporting researchers, including early career researchers, to develop sustainability research.
  • Sharing sustainability knowledge internally and externally to increase our impact.
  • Building sustainability research collaborations with research institutions, civil society, government and business.
  • Establishing one or more Living Lab centres where students, researchers and external partners can co-create sustainability research with real-world impact.
