Biography
Cherry is currently completing ESRC-funded doctoral research in the History and Anthropology departments into the historical geography of Sri Lanka.
Cherry's project 'The wet and the dry: climate and the geographical imagination in Sri Lanka, 1800-1953' considers how Sri Lanka's wet and dry zones came to be mapped during British colonial rule and how the image of a climatically divided island came to dominate thought about the island's geography in the twentieth century.
This project sits at the intersection of studies of colonial knowledge production and the historical geography of science.
