This talk explores the Pacific’s leadership in the ICJ advisory proceedings on climate change, highlighting the role of Pacific States, particularly Solomon Islands, in shaping advocacy and legal strategy. It will then analyse the key elements of the ICJ Advisory Opinion including its implications for future domestic and inter-State climate litigation and reparations claims. The discussion will also reflect on the Advisory Opinion’s influence at COP30 in Brazil.

About the speakers:
Harj Narulla is a barrister and leading global expert on climate law and litigation at Doughty Street Chambers and the University of Oxford. He recently acted for the Solomon Islands before the International Court of Justice in its landmark climate change proceedings.
