SOAS first in the UK for gender equality in university impact rankings

SOAS is listed first in the UK - and 73 in the world - for its progress on the UN’s Gender Equality Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) according to the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings 2025.

The rankings, which assess over 2,500 institutions from 130 countries, score universities on their research, stewardship, outreach and teaching to give an overall picture of their contribution towards sustainability.

SOAS features in the top 100 universities for Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, where it is listed at 73 globally. It has also scored in the top 200 universities worldwide on the SDGs for the alleviation of poverty and the reduction of inequalities.

The score for Gender Equality considers SOAS’s research on the subject, alongside its proportion of first-generation female students, senior female academics and its student access measures, among other metrics. SOAS has recently been awarded the Athena Swan Charter Bronze Award, which further recognises our commitment to the advancement of gender equity and development of an inclusive culture that values all staff.
