Centre of Yoga Studies

Overview

SOAS is leading the way in the field of Yoga Studies, which is growing rapidly around the globe.

The school hosted the Hatha Yoga Project, a research initiative funded by the European Research Council, which charts the history of physical yoga practices, and SOAS is one of only four universities in the world outside of India to offer an MA in Traditions of Yoga and Meditation.

The Centre of Yoga Studies builds on that work. We aim to to bring you some of the best research in Yoga Studies, and to host conversations between scholars, practitioners and everyone else who’s fascinated by the history, practice and philosophy of yoga. We host summer schools, lecture series, workshops and other events in order to share our work, learn from that of others and develop new collaborations. You can see a full list of our upcoming and past events on our Eventbrite booking page.

YogaStudies Online

While most of our events are free lectures, we have a sister project, SOAS YogaStudies Online, that offers an innovative, educational platform enabling Yoga teachers, practitioners, and enthusiasts to study in-depth with world-leading scholars in the field of yoga and meditation studies from the comfort of home. Together, we provide a virtual place for people to bring their passion for Yoga and study together, which encourages critical thinking and reflects our joint commitment to principles of equality, diversity, and inclusivity.
