Japan Foundation London
SOAS Language Centre is honoured to have the endorsement of Japan Foundation London for its Communicative Beginners 1 Japanese Language and Culture course, which is based on the Marugoto materials devised by the Foundation.
The Communicative Japanese Beginners Japanese Language and Culture course (Marugoto) focuses on learning short dialogues and everyday expressions that are useful when visiting Japan. It does not over-emphasise grammatical accuracy and the acquisition of Japanese scripts is an option. This course covers beginner level in one year over three terms of 10 weeks each and, by the end of the year, students will be functionally competent in everyday spoken Japanese.
Our Standard Beginners classes focus on all aspects of the Japanese language systems as well as improving the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) needed for communicative competence. Three termly 10-week courses allow students to complete beginner level, the first of the 8 progressive levels of Japanese that we offer at SOAS Language Centre.
