David Fisk is holder of the Laing O’Rourke Chair in Systems Engineering and Innovation at Imperial College. He previously held the Royal Academy of Engineering Chair at Imperial College London in Engineering for Sustainable Development. At Imperial he is Director of the Laing O’Rourke Centre for Systems Engineering and Innovation and is a co-director of the BP Urban Energy Systems Program. He is a Past President of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers and serves as a Non-Executive Member of the Gas and Electricity Markets Authority.

Lecturer and professor of African anthropology, SOAS 1964-1996; professor of social anthropology, University of Oxford 1996-2008, emeritus thereafter. Fieldwork in eastern Africa 1966-2002 for a number of years in total, among Luo, Giriama and Swahili-speakers, on Islam, entrepreneurship, political ethnicity, language, material culture, and medical anthropology.

My PhD is positioned as part of new approach in understanding trajectories of contemporary urban African art and design in their various art worlds; both local, regional and intercontinental.

I’m interested in what material remains reveal of the life of early Buddhists. I'm revealing networks of smaller hermitages and monastic rock-shelters in-between three major early rock-cut Buddhist monasteries.
