About this event

In the 2025 SOAS Centre of Taiwan Studies Summer School, we are pleased to welcome FAN Ching to reflect on the intersections between feminist media activism and regional engagement in Taiwan.

Tracing the intersections of women’s film festivals and local activism in Taiwan, this presentation shows how Women Make Waves began as a marginal cultural initiative and, through personal experiences from geographical, cultural, and institutional margins, how it has shaped gender discourse and feminist media practices beyond Taipei’s mainstream spaces.
