About this event
In the 2025 SOAS Centre of Taiwan Studies Summer School, we are pleased to welcome Professor Ling-fang Cheng for a timely exploration of Taiwan’s recent recall movements.
The recall movements in 2021 only focused on the KMT mayor Han Guo-yu whereas the one in 2025 focused on KMT and DDP MPs, and about 30 KMT MP have passed the second stage Talk of the recall petition.
This talk aims at explaining two major issues: What are the similarities and differences between these two recall movements in terms of organizations, participants, affect involved, culture images, electoral fraud and sabotage? What are the political impacts they have achieved and what are the social and personal changes they have brought about?
