SOAS Library appeal raises £33k
The SOAS Library appeal brought together our global SOAS community to support its vital role in research, learning and access worldwide.
The Advancement Office ran the appeal throughout April, and we are excited to announce that we have exceeded our target and raised £33,000.
The initial fundraising goal was £20,000 to support a variety of measures such as repairing damaged books or manuscripts and enhancing digitisation efforts.
Throughout the month, we collaborated with the SOAS community to highlight the vital role that the SOAS Library plays in supporting students, staff and researchers at SOAS and around the world.
Alex Kither, Curator of Rare Books and Manuscripts in the Library’s Special Collections, wrote a blog post in support of the appeal. He explained how “support for the library enables us to expand and care for our collections, and to make them accessible to a global audience for research, learning, and public engagement.”
Student and Library volunteer Ellis Taylor, wrote about what the Library means to her, saying: “Access to the SOAS Library has been absolutely vital throughout my time at the university. If I no longer had access to the library, I would not only lose an amazing and vast collection of books, but also a study space which has been so useful during my studies.”
By the end of the month, 188 donors from 23 countries had made a gift to the Library, raising a total of £33,000.
We are grateful for the support of our global alumni community, staff and students, and are delighted to see this specialist library recognised worldwide for its importance.
