The World’s Kitchen awarded bronze Soil Association accreditation
SOAS has received further recognition for its sustainability work as The World’s Kitchen and Staff Common Room (SCR) achieved Food for Life Served Here - Bronze certification from the Soil Association, recognising their commitment to serving healthy, sustainable meals.
The Food for Life Served Here programme recognises caterers who demonstrate their commitment to climate, nature, and health through the food purchased and served. It also celebrates organisations that use responsibly sourced ingredients, champion good practice and prepare meals from scratch.
Located in the Paul Webley Wing on SOAS campus, The World’s Kitchen is a student favourite to enjoy lunch. Providing affordable, hearty food and the space for socialising – students have the opportunity to try meals from around the world prepared by the dedicated team in The World Kitchen.
This achievement marks an important milestone for SOAS Catering and Hospitality Services, recognising the team's dedication to responsible sourcing, sustainability and delivering high-quality food across campus.
Rudy Palazzi, Head of Campus & Hospitality Experience, shared the importance of this achievement: “This achievement marks an important milestone for SOAS Catering and Hospitality Services, recognising the team's dedication to responsible sourcing, sustainability and delivering high-quality food across campus. It also provides a strong foundation for the next stage of the Food for Life journey, as the team continues to review suppliers and work towards achieving the Silver Award.”
This latest award adds to SOAS’s growing recognition in sustainability. SOAS ranked top 30 in the UK in the 2025/26 People and Planet University League, with first place in London and fourth place in the UK rankings for ethical investments. SOAS was also the first university to divest fossil fuels in 2015 and has most recently joined a collaborative project with the University of London and UCL to decarbonise the Bloomsbury estate by 99%.
