Summer English Language and Academic Subject Courses in London

“In a short period of time I gained a general view of the subject. […]. Professional and friendly staff helped me to experience an academic atmosphere and adapt to a different way of studying. I would recommend the summer courses to students who would like to sample the Higher education system of the UK

UPDATE (31st March 2020): Due to the Covid-19 crisis, we are unable to run the Summer Programme in 2020 and it is, unfortunately, cancelled. The information below is for reference only and we expect to provide details of the programme for 2021 from October onwards.

If you are an international student and want to study academic English in London, then come to IFCELS at SOAS. Take a look at the IFCELS Summer Programme 2020 Brochure (pdf; 2mb)

We offer a range of summer courses for English language development and introductions to academic subjects too. These courses are a great introduction to studying at an English speaking university.

You will need to be at least 17 years of age to apply. Normally, you will need to have graduated from high school, but in exceptional circumstances we can consider 17 year olds with one year of high school remaining.

All courses consist of 18 teaching hours per week and are taught in the daytime between 9 AM and 5 PM.

Subject Based Summer Courses with English Language Support

English language requirements for students choosing subject courses:

Students will need at least an intermediate level of English in order to understand the lectures, which are delivered at undergraduate level, and to engage in lively discussion in the seminars and tutorials.

Academic English Summer Courses

The Summer Programme is intended for students with at least a pre-intermediate level of English and is not suitable for beginners or students with elementary level English. The English courses are offered at different levels, from pre-intermediate to advanced.
