Course overview
BA Digital Media and Culture at SOAS examines how digital technologies are reshaping societies, economies, and politics across the world.
From the ethics of AI and the power of social media to digital creativity and cultural expression, this degree equips you to understand, analyse and influence the digital world – not just navigate it.
Taught by experts from across SOAS, the programme brings a distinctively global perspective to the study of digital culture, grounded in the social, political and economic contexts that shape how technologies are developed and experienced. This is not a technical degree: it is an analytical and critical one, designed for people who want to think seriously about what the digital age means and who it serves.
Graduates go on to careers in policy, advocacy, consultancy, media, content creation, and entrepreneurship, as well as postgraduate study.

Teaching and learning
Contact hours
All full-time undergraduate programmes consist of 120 credits per year, in modules of 15 or 30 credits, taught over 10 or 20 weeks. As a rough guide, one credit equals approximately 10 hours of work, most of which is independent study, alongside lectures, seminars and classes. Most undergraduate modules include a two-hour lecture or a one-hour lecture and one-hour seminar each week; some also include a one-hour tutorial. Language modules typically involve more contact time than other subjects.
