About this event

This ethnographic film presents a unique perspective of what happens when, on the first Wednesday of each month, the 84 councillors elected to Sheffield City Council meet in the Town Hall.

Filmed from the floor of the chamber and interspersed with interviews from the leading participants, Full Council provides an unusually human glimpse into the rituals and decision-making processes that have consequences for the city outside.

Richard Axelby (SOAS) and Shirley van der Maarel (University of Manchester) are both anthropologist film-makers and part of the Global Ethnographies of Politicians, Parliaments and People programme, funded by the European Research Council.
