Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy

Overview

The Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy (CISD) is committed to the promotion of excellence in teaching, scholarship and research.

Since its founding in 2000, the centre has become a premier space offering interdisciplinary and vocationally-oriented teaching and training in global diplomacy and policy. Its on-campus degrees are designed for cross-disciplinary learning that combines an understanding of key concepts, theories and debates with effective practical skills training and a range of extra-curricular activities.

Embedded in the Department of Politics and International Studies and drawing on the distinctive regional expertise across SOAS, CISD programmes seek to look beyond traditional Western-centric approaches.

Research

The Centre is actively involved in a number of interdisciplinary research programmes.

Linked to these is a rich and varied programme of conferences, lectures and other public events which bring together academics, practitioners and students from around the world.

CISD students are actively encouraged to contribute to our research programmes, whether by taking part in events or by pursuing research in these areas as dissertation topics.
