About this event

This event will feature a film screening of 'Moonlight Warrior 月光武士', followed by a Q&A session with Director, Hong Ying.

Adapted from Hong Ying’s novel of the same name, Moonlight Warrior tells the story of the mountain city of China, Chongqing, through the tumultuous youth of Dou Xiaoming. In 1976, Dou Xiaoming, a 12-year-old boy, is hospitalised due to an injury where he meets met the nurse Jiahui, a nurse who takes exceptional care of him. Jiahui, strikingly beautiful, is married to Gang, a local gangster, and frequently endures domestic abuse. Xiaoming’s discovery of her plight leads him to confront the injustice, faltering the destinies of all three individuals.

Moonlight Warrior garnered the Best Feature Film Screenplay Award at the 2023 Next Generation Indie Film Awards in the United States. It was also a contender at the 2022 Goa International Film Festival in India and was showcased at the 2023 Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival in China.
