About this event

During the summer school, students will attend interactive lectures, engage in study skills sessions and find out more about university. Students will work with current SOAS students and complete a group project with peers.

There are three pathways to choose from:

  1. Time Traveler's Trail: uncover the past, ponder the present and forge the future (sessions in this pathway will include History, Philosophy, Anthropology/Sociology, and Economics)
  2. Justice and Creativity Expedition: where art meets justice and change beings (sessions in this pathway will include Law, Art, and Global Development)
  3. Culture and Power Voyage: embark on a journey of cultural exploration, political insight and financial literacy (sessions in this pathway will include Politics, Languages & Cultures, and Finance).

Widening participation

The SOAS Summer School is a widening participation activity designed to give students a first-class introduction to higher education. It is for Year 10 students attending state schools and colleges. It is a free and non-residential (SOAS will cover travel costs for eligible students who live outside the London Oyster Card 11-15 Zip zone).  It will be held at:

  • SOAS University of London, Russell Square, London WC1H 0XG

Students who meet at least one of the following criteria will be prioritised:

  • First generation in family to attend university in the UK
  • Eligible or previously eligible for Free School Meals
  • Experience of local authority care
  • From an area underrepresented in higher education (as measured by TUNDRA data)

Application

Students can apply individually to attend.  To apply as an individual student, please complete the online application form (link above).

Schools can also choose to express interest in bringing a group of 10 students who would be accompanied each day by a member of staff.  For school groups, we will divide the students between pathways.  If you are a member of school staff and would like to express interest in bringing a group, please complete the school interest online form (link above).
