The world needs SOAS more than ever before

For over 100 years we have been asking big questions about global human challenges.

We are a small research-led university that acts as a gateway to global culture, economics, politics, philosophy, languages and more. We are rooted in the culture and languages of the regions in which we specialise: Asia, Africa and the Middle East. These regions account for over three quarters of the world’s population.

But in today’s highly competitive funding environment we depend on vital donations from our friends, philanthropists and alumni.

For us, the challenge of maintaining and balancing academic excellence and financial sustainability is even greater as there are many areas in which it is difficult for us to achieve economies of scale.

By making a donation to SOAS you are educating future generations of peace makers, activists, changemakers; you are shaping the future of policy, human rights and global economies.

Area of Greatest Need

A donation towards the 'Area of Greatest Need' allows us to plan ahead and respond quickly and flexibly to the changing needs of the SOAS community by providing support wherever the need is greatest. A donation could support:

  • Scholarships for talented students who may be the first in their family to go to university
  • Conservation of a treasured and at risk manuscript
  • Protecting our specialist languages
  • Outreach projects with local schools
  • Empowering latest research
  • Projects to improve the student experience

See also Projects that Matter and our hubbub page.

You can donate through a single gift, arrange a regular gift, or leave a legacy.

If you are interested in making a gift of any size but have questions, we would be delighted to hear from you.
