The aim of this module is to introduce the philosophical, theoretical and practical bases of conducting academic research.

The aim of this module is to introduce the key concepts of Human Resource Management (HRM) by examining the evolution, functions and processes of HRM within a theoretical and ‘best practice’ context. The module then focuses on HRM from a global perspective and assesses the operation of HRM across distinct cultural and business contexts.

International management

The overall objective of this module is to provide an informed appreciation of international marketing as an academic subject and management practice. This module focuses on the central strategic issue in international marketing – standardisation versus adaptation and examines the topics of marketing competitive advantage in relation to changing consumer behaviour and customer relationships.

This module provides a framework for analysing decisions made by firms in an international context. While the foundations of the course are concepts developed in economics, they will be combined with (and challenged by) insights from strategy, international finance, marketing, human resource management, and other areas. The final aim of the course is to provide you with a critical understanding of whether and to what extent the ways economists have studied and modeled firms’ internationalization decisions offer any support in real world decision making.

The aim of this module is to prepare students for understanding the changing dynamics of multinational enterprises (MNEs) and developing a critical perspective on the MNEs and their relationship with the external environment.

The dissertation project brings together theory and method in a small-scale research project, the findings of which are analysed and critically discussed. The project is an academic piece of work, which is a reflection of an appropriate research design based on literature review and empirical study, either from preliminary or secondary data. Students are allocated a dissertation supervisor in Term 2 and will normally receive three substantive supervision meetings, The role of the supervisor is to assist the student in refining the topic of research, approve the plan of work, advise on sources and help the student with such problems as may arise during the course of the research and writing.

The purpose of the course is to describe and explain the evolution of Chinese managerial systems in ways that are both analytically sound and, at the same time, provide a range of knowledge that will be useful to those expecting to work in or with the Chinese business world. The course is designed to accommodate the needs of both those with little previous knowledge of Chinese affairs and those with limited background in management studies.

This course compares corporate governance systems in various major economies (both advanced and developing/transition economies), examining how systems do work and how they might work better. It introduces emerging Corporate Governance Guidelines and Codes of Best Practice in different countries. It analyses such practical questions as: How should boards of directors and executive teams be composed? How should executives and board of directors be remunerated given the legal, political and economic framework in the country? How do CEOs decide about the mix of debt and equity finance and how does the mix affect their discretion and control over cash flow?

This module provides students with fundamental knowledge in principles of international corporate finance and asset pricing to understand and analyse the major issues affecting the financial policies of corporation in capital markets. This course is concerned with the decisions that firms make about financing their investment in a global economic environment. You will study the principles underlying such decision-making, their application and debates over them in relation to the modern literature to develop analytical skills in a challenging global environment, and other complex specialised contexts.

This module is designed to develop cultural intelligence through a highly practical approach to enhance interpersonal and intercultural communication skills for future career in international teams and global business environment. The body of the module examines the fundamental concepts of cultural, assesses the impact of cultural values in intercultural business environment and explores the the impact of cultural difference on international team effectiveness, business negotiations, communication, and personal presentation.

This course has been specially designed to increase the depth of your understanding of macroeconomics by focusing on the relationship between financial markets and macroeconomics. We place the subject in a real-world context, aiming to show how theoretical and empirical knowledge of macroeconomics and financial markets provides ways to analyse the salient problems faced by modern macroeconomic policy makers.

This course provides an introduction to the applications of econometric methods in finance. It examines how one can formulate the relationships suggested by financial and economic theory in mathematical and statistical format, how to estimate these models using sample data, and how to make relevant statements based on the parameters of the estimated models. The course examines the assumptions that are necessary for the estimators to have desirable properties and the assumptions necessary to make statistical inferences. In addition, the course explores what happens when these assumptions are not satisfied, and what one can do in these circumstances. The course concludes with an examination of how to select an appropriate model for applications in finance.

For international companies to achieve significant competitiveness in the marketplace, it is important that managers understand consumer behaviour. This module, therefore, discusses the internal processes that occur within consumers´ minds as well as external processes that influence consumers’ experience, engagements and relationships with international companies/brands.

The module aims to analyse the current issues shaping the business, economic and institutional environments in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and to analyse their implications for private and foreign investment, managerial decisions, and doing business in the region.

This course is designed to introduce students to a wide variety of issues that are important within the economic and social development of Japan and Korea, and the implications for International Business. The choice of issues is intended to reflect recent and contemporary developments. Selected topics will help students evaluate the nature, rationale and impact of contemporary developments in the region. Upon successful completion of this course, it is hoped that students with a variety of backgrounds will understand the major issues facing the two economies and PG students will be able to bring together all the topics within the course to critically evaluate the future of the two economies.
