Scholarship overview
Dr Mai Yamani Scholarships are open to applications from new international students and will provide tuition fees and support living and study costs.
We are pleased to announce that Dr Mai Yamani Scholarships are now open for the 2026/27 academic year. These scholarships are open to new international students of all nationalities. Priority will be given to students who are ordinarily resident in Palestine, Iraq or Yemen.
Each award will provide tuition fees in full and a stipend of up to £17,340 to support living and study costs. There will also be one Dr Mai Yamani Scholarship available with accommodation provided by GoodEnough College. This scholarship will cover tuition fees in full, accommodation and up to £3,340 to be paid to the awardee.
Eligible programmes
Any full-time (1 year) taught master’s degree programme beginning in 2026/27. Part-time and 2-year courses are not eligible.
Candidate criteria
- The scholarship is open to Overseas/International applicants only.
- Applicants will need to demonstrate financial need in their application.
- Scholarship applicants must have applied to SOAS but are not required to have received an offer of admissions by the scholarship deadline. An offer will need to have been received by the time the relevant panel meets to discuss scholarship applications.
- Please note that this scholarship does not cover funding for pre-sessional courses.
Preference will be given to applicants who are ordinarily resident in Palestine, Iraq, and Yemen.
Candidate assessment
Candidates will be assessed by a Selection Panel based on academic merit, financial need and other information included in your application.
The assessment of your application will be based on the information provided in both your scholarship application and in your online application for admission.
Application deadline
Scholarship applications must be received no later than 12 noon (UK local time) on 2 March 2026. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
You must submit a complete application of your programme as soon as possible and then submit an application for this scholarship in order to be considered. Please note that complete applications for admissions can take up to 4 weeks to be considered by the Department, although this duration can vary depending on the time of the year. You should be prepared to wait up to 6 weeks in busy periods.
You will need to have a firm (unconditional) offer for your programme by the time the Scholarship Panel meet.
Notification
The scholarship shortlisting and awarding period is expected to be completed in May at the earliest. Successful candidates will be contacted first, and once all awards have been allocated, unsuccessful candidates will be notified.

Step two
Apply for the scholarship. You must do so by 12 noon (UK local time) on 2 March 2026. You must apply for this scholarship via the admissions portal. You will need to have applied for a course to get login credentials for this.
