About this event

This event is co-organised by the Taiwan Media Watch Foundation (TMWF) and the Centre of Taiwan Studies, SOAS, with support from the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD).

2024 is a record-breaking year, with more elections over the next 12 months than in any other year in history. In this crucial year, Taiwan has become a global focal point for electoral discussions, drawing attention due to its unique democratic landscape.

Taiwan has had challenges around ensuring that information is reliable and can be trusted and it has been working towards addressing these challenges and improving its information environment.

To comprehensively examine these challenges and explore potential solutions, the first panel will provide insights from Taiwanese broadcasters, fact-checkers, and scholars, offering a nuanced perspective on the evolving dynamics of Taiwan's information environment.

Moving to the second panel, experts will dissect the policies and institutions shaping Taiwan's future, specifically focusing on digital and information governance. Join us as we unravel the complexities of Taiwan's 2024 election, contemplating its broader implications for information and democracy in our interconnected world.
