How AI's discriminatory algorithms entrench social divisions

Modern racism and sexism need to be overcome to build a viable posthuman society where we can be at peace alongside our cyborg friends, according to a new book by Arshin Adib-Moghaddam, Professor in Global Thought and Comparative Philosophies.

“Is Artificial Intelligence Racist? The Ethics of AI and the Future of Humanity" sheds light on the pervasive issue of racism within the algorithms that shape our daily lives and calls for a more inclusive and responsible future.

Through his research and analysis, Professor Adib-Moghaddam dissects the role of technology giants and influential figures like Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and Bill Gates to unveil how their ideas and actions contribute to the propagation of various forms of extremism.

“Many people don’t realise that every crucial aspect of our life is already governed by some form of Artificial Intelligence - banking, health care, shopping, emails, social media etc. - and that some of the algorithms are clearly discriminatory. The danger is that we enter this new age of human existence blindfolded by the mistakes of the past.” Professor Adib-Moghaddam says.

The book emphasises the significant influence wielded by tech giants. By unraveling the intricate web of connections between enlightenment-era racism and discriminatory practices embedded in the algorithms of today, the author unveils how technology inadvertently entrenches social hierarchies and discriminatory boundaries.

The book's analysis of the data that feeds into AI technology offers a critical perspective on the potential ramifications for international security and human rights. By highlighting the alarming consequences of unchecked AI development, Professor Adib-Moghaddam urges society to reflect on the urgent need for ethical guidelines and responsible governance in the field.

His analysis and his insights compel readers to reflect on the potential dangers of unchecked technological advancement.
