Summary:

SOAS Centre for African Studies and the Algeria Embassy in London will be hosting a symposium in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of Algeria's independence. The conference will look at various themes including :

Algeria in the 1960s: The Mekka of Third World Revolution, The Indelible Imprint of French Colonialism in Post-independence Algeria, Higher education in Algeria after independence: Achievements, Challenges and Openness, Making the Case for Colonialism and Colonial Studies in MENA knowledge production.

The panel will include: Pr. Belkacem BELMEKKI of University of Oran 2 Mohamed Ben Ahmed, Dr. YOUSFI Amel of University of Tlemcen Abou Bakr Belkaid, Prof. Martin EVANS of University of Sussex, Dr. NEDJAR Mekia of University of Oran 2 Mohamed Ben Ahmed, Prof Zahia Smail SALHI of University of Manchester and Prof Ali TABLIT of University of Algiers.
The conference will be moderated by Dr Arthur Asseraf from Cambridge University and Dr Aicha Belkadi of SOAS University of London.

This conference is a hybrid event that will take place on campus at SOAS and online.
