This is an advanced Persian language module which provides the students with the opportunity to enhance their proficiency in language use.  By the end of this module students will be able to use the Persian language and work with complex authentic texts written for native speakers. The module will expose students to Persian language use in a variety of registers, dialects and contexts.

Objectives and learning outcomes of the module

  • Read and understand texts selected from a variety of digital and print media, contemporary literary texts, understand radio and television programmes about current affairs in Iran and the Persian speaking parts of central Asia. (Reading)

  • Write essays, answer questions related to the texts and translate complex texts. (Writing)

  • Engage in conversations and group discussions in Persian on a variety of subjects with confidence and accuracy, and convey ideas persuasively and clearly. Learn basic skills of simultaneous and consecutive interpreting. (Oral skills)

  • Follow and understand audio recordings from electronic media and films in Persian. (Aural skills)


Total of 10 weeks teaching with 4 hours classroom contact per week in language classes.

Method of assessment

  • One 30-minute oral exam (20%)
  • One 2-hour test (20%)
  • One 3-hour exam (60%)
