This module provides students with fundamental knowledge of the important components and structures of financial statements. This module aims to provide a grounding in: Analytical and numerical skills; professional ethics in the real world (including the ability to prepare financial statements for organisations); share valuations (utilising published financial information) and assessments of the quality of corporate financial reports.
Objectives and learning outcomes of the module
On successful completion of this module a student will be able to:
- Analyse the financial performance of companies
- Show the links between accounting statements, valuation methods and investment analysis
- Read financial statements
- Conduct financial analysis including applying valuation models and ratios
- Make forecasts and valuations
Method of assessment
Assessment for this module is in three elements:
- One tutorial presentation at 10%
- One essay of 3,000 words at 30%
- One unseen 2-hour written examination at 60%
All elements except the presentation may be resubmitted.
