Module overview
The Business Law module provides a basic overview of key principles of business law from a common-law perspective and not only equips students with a good understanding of these principles in its own right but also provides a useful foundation for those students who choose, after completing their BSc, to go on to take the MSc Finance and Financial Law . A significant part of the module deals with core principles of contract law; since all business transactions are founded on contractual agreements, the law of contract is fundamental to business law. Since many businesses are incorporated companies, the duties of directors to their company are then addressed. The module ends by addressing the more specialised topics of the financing of sale of goods transactions and the harmonisation of international sale of goods law, providing a transition to a business-related Masters degree which students may wish to take subsequently.
Objectives and learning outcomes of the module
On successful completion of this module a student will be able to:
- Understand the key legal concepts governing business transactions in a common-law context
- Advise colleagues in a commercial business on relevant legal principles relating to the business
- Engage with a business-related Masters programme with a sound foundation in relevant legal topics
