The event will discuss the significance of the films and the comics and the adaptation process, as well as fan culture and the cult status of the media. The event will also focus on the politics of tastes between local and global fan cultures as well as the cultural elites and global distributors.

Speaker Biographies

Hikmat Darmawan: A critic specialized in movies, comics, and literature. In 2010 he was selected for the Asian Public Intellectuals Fellowship Program from the Nippon Foundation. His current project Pabrikultur offers programming of cultural events. He is now the head of Film Committee in Jakarta Arts Council since 2016. His latest book is Sebulan di Negeri Manga/ A Month in Manga Nation (2019).

Dr Ekky Imanjaya: A faculty member of Film Department at Bina Nusantara (Binus) University. Ekky just graduated his doctoral study in Film Studies at University of East Anglia. He is a film critic and researcher.

Dr Ben Murtagh : Head of the School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics at SOAS University of London; expert on Indonesian and Southeast Asian Cinema and Culture. He is the author of Genders and sexualities in Indonesian cinema: constructing gay, lesbi and waria identities on screen (2013)
